It always seems like if a team or player is close to a milestone they will reach it against the Flyers, and that’s exactly what David Pastrnak and the Boston Bruins did.
The Bruins came into Philadelphia on Sunday and made it look like their second home. The Bruins fans took over the Wells Fargo Center, as they watched history unfold before their eyes.

With a 3 goal night from David Pastrnak to reach 60 goals and a 34 save win for Swayman the Bruins beat the Flyers 5-3. Becoming the first team in history to record 63 wins in a single season.
Most Wins In A Single NHL Season:
Year: Team: Record:
2022-23 Bruins 63
2018-19 Lightning 62
1995-96 Red Wings 62
1976-77 Canadiens 60
1977-78 Canadiens 59
The Flyers don’t have 63 wins in 2 seasons combined let alone as single season. It has taken the Flyers from February 18, 2020 to April 28, 2023 to accumulate 63 wins. That’s 2 and a half years. It took the Bruins from September 27, 2022 to April 9, 2023. The closest the Flyers have been to even 55 wins in a season was in 1985-68, when they had a 53 in a season.
The Flyers didn’t go down without a fight though, which has been a strong aspect of their game. Having a strong mentality even when down in the game. In the first period the Bruins went up 1-0 early but Wade Allison answered back immediately to make it 1-1. Pastrnak scored back-to-back, then Farabee found the back of the net for his first goal since March 23. The game was 3-2 going into the 3rd. Tippett gave the Flyers hope answering back after Pastrnak scored for his hat trick early in the period. But Zacha put the nail in the coffin with a goal to make it 5-3.

The game was hard hitting and the Flyers had more control of the pace during the ladder stages but Sandström just couldn’t match the Bruins strong offence. The Flyers did have a lot of in close scoring chances though, just couldn’t find the back of the net. According to moneypuck.com, it was pretty back and forth. With the Flyers being the team more deserving of the win. Flyers had more shots in the 2nd and 3rd period, with 3.18% cumulative expected goals which got better as the game progressed.
