Deal or No Deal: Would You Make This Trade? Carter Hart Version 2.0

A few weeks ago, we looked at various fan-proposed scenarios to trade goaltender Carter Hart. That was before the Flyers dealt Ivan Provorov, opened the flood gates for other rebuilding moves, and nobody had actual confidence Briere would wheel and deal during the summer. Now that the Hart rumors have been out in full force over the last week, we’ve once again returned to CapFriendly’s Armchair GM tool to find new and improved Carter Hart trade scenarios for the fans to vote on!

You’re the GM of the Philadelphia Flyers and the trade proposals below come across your desk, do you make the trade?

If all else was equal, this is the exact type of return the Flyers be hoping for in a Hart trade.

Brandt Clarke, a 20-year-old right-handed defenseman is widely considered one of the best defense prospects in the league today. He played in just nine NHL games earning two assists, but did rack up 61 points in 31 games for the Barrie Colts in the OHL in 2022-23.

The Flyers would retain $1.9 million of the last year of Hart’s deal, which is half of his current $3.9 cap hit. They’d also part ways with RHD prospect Ethan Samson, who signed his entry-level deal back in December of 2022 and is scheduled to make the professional jump next season. He scored 60 points in 60 games for the Prince George Cougars of the WHL in 2022-23.

The Flyers get a bona fide defense prospect and the 54th overall pick in 2023 plus a second rounder in 2025 for Hart and Samson.

Beware Briere by mulletmario7

Montreal has been a team atop the rumor mill in a Hart deal, and this scenario specifically is very intriguing.

Price, the 35-year-old goaltender, is more than likely never playing again. But he still has three years left on his contract at a whopping $10.5 million cap hit. He’ll be tucked away on LTIR, but that’s a significant chunk of change to keep on the books, especially if Ryan Ellis’ $6.25 million is right along side it.

As far as the rest of the compensation, well, it’s where the Flyers would have to stop and seriously consider it. Both of those 2023 picks would be Montreal’s own, meaning the fifth overall and 37th overall selections in this year’s draft. The Flyers would draft fifth and seventh overall, 22nd overall plus add an early second at 37th. A hell of a way to kick off a rebuild.

Hart to Toronto by Madrigal

Some Hart trades walk the line between hopeful reality and flat out fiction, but this deal is pretty straight forward and could very well be the real life return in a Hart trade.

Matthew Knies is a 20-year-old forward and former 57th overall pick in 2021. He made the jump to the professional level late in 2022-23 after a strong colligate career at the University of Minnesota. He posted five points in 10 games for the Leafs across the regular season and playoffs.

Boston’s 2023 first round pick currently owned by the Leafs is 28th overall.

The Flyers get a legit NHL-ready forward prospect plus another late first round pick in exchange for Hart.

Danny Briere tears it down by Madrigal

After the Provorov trade, Briere showed that he isn’t afraid to get creative in order to get an extra asset or two in the deal, and in this case, Toronto pays up for dumping Matt Murray.

Murray has one year left on his deal at a $4.6 million cap hit. He’s been oft-injured and rather pedestrian when healthy. He really hasn’t had a notable season since 2018-19 in Pittsburgh.

Nicholas Robertson is a 21-year-old forward who has 31 NHL games under his belt sprinkled over the course of three seasons. His production has been rather underwhelming at both the AHL and NHL level, with various injuries disrupting his momentum. His career highlight was 16 goals and 28 points in 28 AHL contests back in 2021-22.

The Flyers get two first round picks plus a young forward prospect in exchange for Hart and eating Murray’s contract.

Hart fire sale by Random_Internet_Guy_1967

Another deal that first with boarder of reality, but if the Flyers are dealing Hart, they should absolutely be looking for a return of this caliber.

Nico Daws is a 22-year-old goaltender. He’s got 25 NHL games under his belt where he holds an .893 save percentage. He suited up for 33 AHL games this season posting a 2.70 goals against average and .904 save percentage.

Alex Holtz is a 21-year-old forward drafted seventh overall in 2020. He’s played in 28 NHL games so far scoring six points, but has played very well int he AHL, registering 62 points in 66 games over the last two seasons.

The Flyers get two noteworthy prospects including another goaltender plus two additional draft picks in 2024 and 2025.

What Flyers fans want for Hart by Stephane_Robidas

For what it’s worth, I’ve no idea of the title of this one is tongue-in-cheek or not, but it is indeed a interesting, top dollar return for Hart.

Jaggar Firkus is a 19-year-old forward drafted 35th overall in 2022. He scored 88 points in 66 games for the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL in 2022-23.

Tye Kartye is a 22-year-old forward who played his first professional season in 2022-23 scoring 57 points in 72 AHL games. He made his NHL debut for the Kraken during the playoffs where he scored five points in 10 games.

Shane Wright is a 19-year-old forward and fourth overall pick in 2022. He scored 37 points in 20 games for OHL Windsor after being demoted from the NHL to start the season.

The Kraken’s 2023 first rounder is 20th overall. Toronto’s second rounder is 57th overall.

That’s three high-end forward prospects and two pick within the first two rounds in the 2023 draft.

Potential Hart trades by moosecoon

This trade stuck out as one of the only deals that didn’t feature any draft picks.

Jacob Bryson is a 25-year-old left-handed defenseman. He’s racked up 28 points in 170 NHL games over the last three seasons.

Ukko-Pekka Lukkonen is a 24-year-old goaltender who has suited up for 46 NHL contests over the last three seasons, currently sitting at a career 3.47 goals agaisnt average and .898 save percentage.

Noah Ostlund is a 19-year-old forward and former 16th overall pick in 2022. He scored 26 points in 37 games in Sweden last season. He signed his entry-level contract shortly after he was drafted last summer.

The Flyers get two main roster contributors with relatively low ceilings plus a forward prospect for Hart.
