Typically speaking, late September or early October is a down time for trades across the NHL. Most teams made their deals during the summer and are focused on playing with their new toys for the upcoming season. But that doesn’t stop hockey fans from crafting scenarios for their favorite team to get an early jump on some blockbusters. So we’ve once again combed through CapFriendly’s ArmChair GM tool and picked some of out favorite Flyers related deals to vote on.
You’re the GM of the Philadelphia Flyers and the proposals below come across your desk, do you make the trade?
Konecny Blockbuster by future_gm

The Flyers have been circling around the Shane Pinto rumor mill for the last few weeks, so naturally, fans have tried to craft a deal featuring those various rumors.
Tyler Boucher is forward prospect who was drafted 10th overall in 2021, he is going to make his professional debut this season. Cole Reinhardt is a forward prospect whom the Senators drafted in the sixth round in 2020. He’s spent three seasons in the AHL.
Mathieu Joseph is a depth winger who has three years left at a $2.9 million cap hit.
Shane Pinto is a 22-year-old forward who scored 35 points in 82 games during his first full NHL season on 2022-23. As of this writing he’s still unsigned as an RFA by the Senators, who cannot afford to ink a new deal.
The Flyers get a promising young center and a first round pick for Travis Konecny (at 50% retained for this season and next) plus a pair of forward prospects for Allison, who is possibly an odd man out of the current team.

Arguably, one of the biggest misses Chuck Fletcher had during his tenure with the Flyers was filing to snag Sam Reinhart from the Sabres at the same time they acquired Rasmus Ristolainen. Here’s a chance to correct a past mistake.
Reinhart turns 28 in November and is on an expiring contract. The scenario the author suggested involved Reinhart inking a five year, $8.5 million extension with the Flyers. Reinhart hit the 30-goal mark in both seasons he’s played with the Panthers.
The Flyers would retain about one-third of the last year of Atkinson’s cap, and give Florida the rights to pending restricted free agent Bobby Brink.
The Flyers finally address their center depth with some kind of legitimacy, clearing out a veteran wing and a prospect in the process.

Philjegren by Komisarek

In the world of possible trade deadline deals, this is definitely within the realm of reality.
Timothy Liljegren is a 24-year-old right-handed defenseman who has 141 games of NHL experience under his belt. He’s served primarily in a third pair role for the Leafs.
The Leafs get a NHL-caliber depth defenseman plus a pair of higher draft picks to use as ammo in other trades, and the Flyers get a young RHD who still has upside to capitalize on.

This trade is fascinating because it deals with a question that will pop up sooner or later this season- what do the Flyers do with Own Tippett? He’s in the last year of his current contract, and was a guy from the previous regime (despite the fact that the current GM was the right hand man to the previous GM, but you’re supposed to forget that part) and with the logjam at RW, could the Flyers opt to deal Tippett at the deadline?
Isaac Howard was the Lightning’s 31st overall pick in 2022. He is currently playing at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and has not signed an entry-level contract as of this writing.
The Flyers get a first round pick and a prospect who was drafted in the first round for Tippett, but is it enough for them to deal their work in progress?

Any opportunity the Flyers have to ditch Sean Couturier needs to be considered since he’s still got seven years left on his contract and his 31st birthday in just a few months away.
Jake DeBrusk is a 26-year-old forward who is a UFA next summer. He had a career year in 2022-23, posting 27 goals and 50 points in 64 games. He has asked for, and rescinded, a trade request in the past.
Trent Frederic is a 25-year-old forward who has two years left on his current contract at a $2.3 million cap hit. He had 17 goals and 31 points last season, both career bests.
The Flyers offload Couturier and his contract, the Bruins get a capable (and seemingly healthy) replacement for Patrice Bergeron, and Philly gets two NHL forwards on short-term contracts plus a second round pick in a few years.

Can Philly make the playoffs with some moves by Maximus_Domi

27-year-old William Nylander’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and could very well be dealt at either the trade deadline if they Leafs want to recoup some of his value before he hits the open market. Let’s assume this trade comes with an extension in tow.
Nylander had a career-best 40 goals and 87 points in 2022-23, the second consecutive season he hit the 80-point plateau. He has 430 points in 521 NHL games. Also seems worth noting they’ve been trying Nylander out at center from his usual spot on the right wing.
The Flyers get a legitimate upgrade at wing (or down the middle), and the Leafs can spread the wealth on the roster with some depth.

Carter Hart’s fate is currently tied to the Team Canada investigation that is still dragging its feet, but his name did appear in rumors during the offseason and the Flyers could be looking to unload him as his contract expires next summer.
Adam Boqvist is a 23-year-old right-handed defenseman who was the eighth overall pick back in 2018. Yegor Chinakov was the 21st overall pick in 2020. Both players have over 100 games of NHL experience so far.
Samuel Knazko was the Blue Jackets’ third round pick in 2020. He played his first season in North America in 2022-23, primarily in the AHL.
Elvis Merzlikins is a 29-year-old goaltender, whose number have slowly dipped over the past few seasons after an impressive .923 save percentage back in 2019-20. He has three years left on his contract at a $5.4 million cap hit.
The Flyers get a new goaltender (who is not under criminal investigation) that can easily take the backup role if Ersson passes him by, not to mention two first round picks, a prospect and two NHL caliber young players.
