An Introduction, and Some Quick Thoughts

It’s been a long time since I’ve written about anything, hockey or otherwise. Recently I’ve been feeling that urge to write again, so I have to thank Dan for inviting me to contribute some articles. I’ve been a Flyers fan for as long as I can remember. I’ve sat through the the lowest lows and highest highs, from the Fletcher era and the 06-07 season to 2010 and the not-so-bad early 2010s. I’d mention the 90’s, but I’d be lying if I said I remember anything before 1999, because my earliest memory of hockey in general was my first sporting event, a Phantoms game with my dad. If you follow my X account, you’ll know I’m 5-for-5 on Philly sports teams, and I’m not afraid to fire off a hot take, or a typical angry Philly sports fan thought in a moment of frustration.

As we all sit and witness our surprising season, I believe the best thing for the Flyers to do is let it ride. This season was really unexpected, even with some not playing up to par on the ice. Head coach John Tortorella has the locker room gelling together well and as you can see if you’ve been checking the team’s social media accounts, the locker room is lively and often fired up. So let’s enjoy it while the getting is good, and maybe not commit to buying or selling quite yet. Why move anyone if the offer isn’t up to par or substantial? I have no issues moving Sean Walker or another decent trade piece, but the Flyers shouldn’t be so hasty as to move players like Carter Hart right now.

As this is being typed up, the Flyers are 4th in the Metro with a chance to jump up a few places in the next few games and sitting in a playoff spot. The team is on pace for a 100 point season, with some impressive wins as of late. Even if that dreaded western road trip was mostly disappointing, the Flyers proved they have the balls, as Torts would say, to hang with, and beat top teams like the Vancouver Canucks. So lets sit back and enjoy the ride.
