A Tale of Two Goalies

It was the best of days, It was the worst of days.

I woke up today, excited to see former Flyer Sergei Bobrovsky and his Florida Panthers celebrate their Stanley Cup win with a parade down A1A.

Bob might no longer wear orange and black, but he has always been a favorite of mine. I consider every Flyer a part of my family, but there are players I hold close to my heart. Simmer, Tocchet, Briere, Bob…and Carter Hart. I was ecstatic when he was drafted, and bought a sweater immediately. I cheered hm on, had his back every step of the way. Win, lose, didn’t matter, he was my guy.

The Flyers had been without a shut down goalie for a long time, Hextall, Pelle…and now we finally had a true #1 goalie. I fretted every bump and bruise…worried about a career-ending injury. Little did I know that Carter would be the one inflicting the injury that would effectively end his career.

When he was implicated in the Hockey Canada scandal, I started to back away. I actually sought out the video that was purported to include him. It is grainy, it is bad quality, but it is Carter, no doubt at all. There new others, and they were indicted with him, but they are not Flyers so they aren’t mentioned here. They aren’t my family. I did not wear their sweaters proudly.

I ended the day by placing that prized sweater in the trash.
