Welcome back to The Weekly Short. In this week’s segment, I want to look at this Philadelphia team and see what the h*ll is going on. In my previous article, I talked about how the biggest issue the Flyers have is its lack of identity … especially after the firing of AV, this statement holds true.
One thing that confuses me about this team is its lack of consistency. It seems that one week this team looks like they’re ready to win the cup and the next week they would not last two days in the AHL. A perfect example is the last two games this team played: On December 16th, the Flyers lost to a depleted Canadiens team. Even though the boys gained a point in a shootout, losing to a squad that can barely call itself an NHL-caliber team is despicable. And then two nights later, the Flyers played Ottawa, where we played hard the whole game and notched an OT winner. This is the thing that I do not understand about the Flyers, and it’s something that has plagued Philadelphia since the test of time.
And what’s even more baffling is that the Flyers can blow out a Cup-bound team like Carolina, but then get shut out by Dave Hakstol and the Seattle Kraken who are 10-17-3 … skill does not matter with this team. Nothing about Philadelphia makes sense.
I am so tired of being a Flyers fan … it is debilitating.
