Deal or No Deal: Would You Make This Trade? Vol. 18

The month of June is upon us and that means the NHL entry draft and free agency is finally on the horizon! For those of us that haven’t had a horse in the postseason race and have been desperate for our favorite teams to start making moves, the time is almost here. Luckily, CapFriendly’s armchair GM tool provides an outlet for fans to craft their ideal offseason moves, and thus, we once again went through and found some Flyers trades for the fans to vote on!

You’re the GM of the Flyers and the trade proposals below come across your desk, do you make the trade?

Aggressive rebuild by Danny by Hunter8853

Here’s a smart little trade that would see the Flyers cashing out on a few of their extra depth pieces in exchange for a rehab project in a position of need.

Sandstrom is clearly the odd man out with Hart and Ersson expected to be the tandem moving forward, and Seeler should be moved to open his roster spot for a prospect like Egor Zamula to take.

In exchange, the Flyers land center Alex Turcotte, who was the fifth overall pick back in 2019. He has struggled at the pro level, recording zero points in 12 NHL contests and just 56 points in 91 AHL games over the course of three seasons.

Worth noting, the Flyers do not own the Leafs’ 2024 3rd round pick in real life, it was added from a separate trade in his scenario, but the Flyers do own their own third rounder in 2024, so that can be subbed in instead.

Aggressive Flyers Moves for a Rebuild by JB75x

The Konecny rumors have been spinning all offseason long as the biggest trade chip the Flyers have left, and Seattle could be an under-the-radar team interested in his services.

Shane Wright is a 19-year-old center who was originally the consensus first overall pick in the 2022 draft, though he ultimately slipped to fourth overall. He played in eight NHL games scoring two points, eight AHL games scoring six points, and 20 OHL games scoring 37 points, as the Kraken considered all options with their prospect last season.

The Flyers get a top center prospect for Konecny, also throwing in Florida’s third rounder in 2023 as well.

This isn’t just a typical trade up scenario, it’s a way to acquire a second top five pick without giving up their own. The Canadiens’ first round pick is fifth overall.

Tyson Foerster is a 21-year-old winger who led the Phantoms in scoring during 2022-23 with 48 points in 66 games.

Konecny is 26 and has two years left on his current deal at a $5.5 million cap hit. He scored 61 points in 60 games during his career-year in 2022-23.

The Flyers would then hold the fifth and seventh overall picks, as well as 22nd overall previously acquired in the Provorov trade in the stacked 2023 entry draft.

Road to glory by clouson

We’ve never included two trades from the same scenario in the poll before, but this one is obviously a package deal.

Matthew Tkachuk is a 25-year-old forward who scored 109 points in 79 games with the Panthers this season, his second straight 100+ point campaign.

Brady Tkachuk is a 23-year-old forward who serves as the captian of the Ottawa Senators. He had a career-best output in 2022-23 recording 35 goals and 83 points in 82 games.

The Flyers empty their collection of first round picks over the next two years, but ditch some main roster dead weight like Sanheim and Hayes as well in exchange for the Tkachuk brothers, arguably the two most prototypical Flyers in the league today.

Expedite the Rebuild

Yes, this trade is included specifically to see how many Flyers fans can mentally justify not acquiring Auston Matthews.

Matthews, now 25, was the former first overall pick back in 2016. He scored 40 goals and 85 points in 2022-23 after hitting 60/100 last year.

Matt Murray is a 29-year-old goaltender who has one year left on his deal at a $4.6 million cap hit. He’d be throw in. asa cap dump. Nicholas Robertson is a 21-year-old forward whose career has been hit hard by injuries. He as 31 NHL games and seven points under his belt.

Considering Ryan Ellis is an LTIR move, the cap (in the short term) works out well in this deal. $17 mil from Toronto and $19.6 (ballpark as Frost and York are RFAs as. ofthis writing) from the Flyers, with Ellis’ LTIR dropping it down to $13.4.

The Flyers give up a haul (though outside of Hart, Tippet and York there isn’t much of substance) for one of the best players in the game today.

Stock the cupboards by Flyers2024

Carter Hart’s name has popped up in fan rumors over the last few months, so let’s put that to the test.

It’s no secret fans have experienced buyers remorse stemming from the 2019 draft when the Flyers selected defenseman Cam York over forward Cole Caufield, so here’s a chance to correct that. Since this trade was suggested, Caufield signed an eight-year, $62.8 million ($7.8 million aav) extension.

The Flyers get a desperately needed scorer and three draft picks in 2024 in exchange for their top goaltender.

Big offseason by Braisman7

There’s been rumors dating back to the trade deadline that the Blue Jackets could have interest in Hayes, and this scenario opens a much bigger blockbuster than anticipated.

Jake Bean is a 24-year-old left-handed defenseman and 13th overall pick in 2016. He’s scored 43 in 125 games, playing just 14 in 2022-23 due to injury. He’s got on year left on his contract at a $2.3 million cap hit and is an RFA in 2024.

Liam Foudy is a 23-year-old center and former 18th overall pick back in 2018. He played his first full NHL season in 2022-23 scoring 14 points in 62 games. He’s on a 762k contract for one more season and is a restricted free agent next summer.

Jack Roslovic is a 26-year-old center who posted 44 points in 77 games last season. He’s got one year left on his deal at a $4 million cap hit and is an unrestricted free agent in 2024.

Elvis Merzlikins is a 29-year-old goaltender that has four years left on his contract that carries a $5.4 million cap hit. He has 150 NHL games under his belt with a career 3.13 goals against average and .906 save percentage.

The Flyers move $5.1 million of Hayes’ $7.1 million for three more seasons, and all of Sanheim’s eight-year, $50 million extension, but lose top goalie Carter Hart; and in exchange get three young roster players and a solid netminder replacement in Merzlikins to tandem with Sam Ersson.
