Deal or No Deal: Would You Make This Trade? vol. 27

We’re finally in the month of June, which means the 2024 NHL draft will, at long last, arrive soon and the offseason folly amongst the fans is heating up. So we’ve once again taken to CapFriedly’s Armchair GM tool to search out the best Flyers-themed trades for readers to vote on!

You’re the GM of the Philadelphia Flyers and the proposals below come across your desk, do you make the trade?

Mad Russian time by GirouxCrew

The rumors regarding Mitch Marner’s fate in Toronto continue to churn, and some Flyers fans still have a shred of hope that there could be a deal to be had between the two. In the last installment of Deal or No Deal, there was a Marner scenario that included multiple draft picks, but this one is relatively straight forward.

Marner has 639 points in 576 career games. Konecny has 400 points in 564 career games.

The Flyers also ditch the remaining three years of Rasmus Ristolainen at a $5.1 million cap hit, so Toronto has a chance to unleash the mythical “playoff Risto” on the world.

Its all about Michkov by kevg028

There have been plenty of (mostly baseless) rumors surrounding Brady Tkachuk, but rolling under the assumption that he could be available, he’d be a prototypical Flyer if ever there was.

Tkachuk posted 37 goals and 74 points in 81 games in 2023-24, his second consecutive 30+ goal, 70+ point season.

This is essentially a main roster piece for a flurry of future assets that don’t (or won’t) have main roster spots in Philly.

Crazy Summer by DH28Hockey

The idea behind this one is that the cap-strapped Panthers get a top four defenseman under long-term contract, that may actually save them a bit of money, and the Flyers get their top RHD in Ekblad, but he’s a pending UFA in the 2025 offseason.

Injuries have limited Ekblad. He hasn’t played a full campaign since 2018-19. But he’s got top pair caliber play within and, provided they don’t grossly overpay him, can be a worthwhile righty in an otherwise very uncertain position for the Flyers.

The Flyers need a young center, and ditching TK, who’s a pending UFA next summer

Shane Wright was the fourth overall pick in 2022. He’s got 16 games of NHL experience, but has been a part of two very successful Coachella Valley Firebirds’ playoff runs.

Zegras has been featured heavily in these Deal or No Deal scenarios over the last little while, but this may be the most simple, straightforward one yet.

Farabee is a 24-year-old, 50-point winger with four years left on his contract at a $5 million cap hit.

Zegras is a 23-year-old 60-point center with two years left on his contract at a $5.75 million cap hit.

What Id do by Hammerwise

26-year-old LHD Jakob Chychrun has one year left on his contract before hitting UFA status, but there were rumors back at the trade deadline that the Flyers had interest in the defenseman.

They essentially give up nothing for Chychrun’s services. Grans is just a dude, Zamula could possess an everyday NHLer ceiling but he won’t get there under Torts, and the two draft picks don’t really matter much.
