Deal or No Deal: Would You Make This Trade? vol. 28

A few months ago, we said goodbye to the Deal or No Deal series when CapFriendly died, but their spiritual successor, PuckPedia, has launched their own team building feature called PuckGM where fans can once again propose trades for us to vote on! It’s a weird time of year for trade rumors, but Flyers fans have already been busy looking to the future on the new platform.

You’re the Gm of the Flyers and the proposals below come across your desk, do you make the trade?

Worth noting that Andrew Peeke isn’t currently a Blackhawk, he was acquired in a separate trade in this author’s scenario, but it doesn’t really matter because you can plug any pending UFA depth player in that spot, the more interesting part of the deal is the first and second round picks in 2025.

The Flyers ditch the remaining three seasons of Farabee’s contract with a $5 million cap hit, Farabee gets a chance on a less crowded winger corps in Chicago, and the Flyers would get two high draft picks in the process.

Start of 24-25 by Hammerwise

The Flyers proved in 2024 that they are willing to punt their draft picks down the line, so returning their 2025 pick to Colorado (originally acquired in the Sean Walker trade) in exchange for their 2026 and 2027 with the likelihood that Colorado is worse in a few years’ time then they are this season may be a smart play.

They’d also move on from Scott Laughton in this deal, so one of those picks can be attributed to him, but moving what’s likely to be a late first rounder in 2025 for what could be a much lower pick in 2027 would be a chess move from Briere.

Taking a few chances by Hammerwise

If the Flyers are against drafting high and willingly take themselves out of the free agent mix, they’re going to need to get creative when it comes to adding young talent to the team via trade.

Arthur Kaliyev is a 23-year-old forward who has shown mixed results as a young roster player with the Kings. He has 71 points in 188 career games.

The Flyers get a rehab project with upside at forward, and also get a second round pick in 2026 as well, helping ease the loss of what would be a late first round pick in 2025.

Who says no? by Jim Benning

Remember when the Flyers tried to trade Travis Sanheim in 2023 before his new contract kicked in? They failed to do so and seemingly haven’t attempted to move him since.

Derek Forbert is a 32-year-old depth left-handed defenseman. He’s a UFA at the end of the season.

Sawyer Mynio is a 19-year-old LHD who was the Canucks’ third round pick in 2023. He signed his ELC, but remains with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL this season.

The player compensation is fairly weak, but the Flyers do land another first rounder in 2025 and ditch the remaining six years and $37 million left on his contract.

Couple of Moves by Hammerwise

Ever since Claude Giroux was traded away at the 2022 deadline, segments of the fanbase have been looking for ways to bring him back. He turns 37 in January, but that hasn’t stopped his production. He’s posted 144 points in 167 games since joining the Senators in 2022-23. Giroux is also an unrestricted free agent in the 2025 offseason, so there’d be no longterm commitment.

Blockbuster Offseason by TheNextDubas

25-year-old RHD Timothy Liljegren has been on the trade block in Toronto, and soon-to-be 30-year-old Rasmus Risolainen has been on the block in Philly.

Ristolainen has two more years on his contract at a $5.1 million cap hit, while Liljegren has one more year at $3 million. If the Flyers retain $1.8, the Flyers still walk away $300,000 in the green immediately, and $3.3 million in cap space by 2026-27. The Leafs throw in an additional third round pick for the retention.

The Leafs get a veteran player, with a mysterious “playoff Risto” that hasn’t been seen during his previous 11 seasons. The Flyers get a younger player at the same position with a draft pick and some monetary help as well.
