Deal or No Deal: Would You Make This Trade? vol. 42

The Olympic break is upon us and when the NHL picks back up next week, the trade deadline will nearly be upon us. It’s not going to leave much time for teams to make a final push. The Flyers are currently eight points back of a playoff spot, and will likely be looking to sell when March 6 arrives. We went though PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool and found some Flyers-themed trades for readers to vote on!

You’re the GM of the Philadelphia Flyers and the proposals below come across your desk, do you make the trade?

There are many Thomas-centered trades out there right now, and this is one of the more realistic deals when it comes to what the Flyers will likely have to give up in order to get him.

Thomas is a 26-year-old center who has five years left on his current contract with a $8.1 million cap hit. He’s posted 200 points in his last 194 games serving as the Blues’ top center.

The Flyers give up one of their younger wingers, their “top” prospect and a pair of high draft picks to finally attempt to adress their center depth with some legitimacy.

Wallstedt goes by SensyJones69

Let’s play a game of “how desperate are the Flyers to find a top, young goaltender?”

Wallstedt is a 23-year-old goalie who has 28 games of NHL experience under his belt. He’s already posted five shutouts alongside a 2.85 GAA and .908 SV%. He’s got one year left on his current contract at a $2.2 million cap hit and is a restricted free agent in 2027.

Flyers by end of year by EChouinard19x

This is one of those trades where Jason Botterill would probably pass out from laughing if Danny Briere picked up the phone and actually offered this trade, but targeting someone like Beniers wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world for the Flyers.

If the Kraken are looking to spread out their wealth as they continue to build, adding two young players with upside that haven’t been used to their fullest in Philly and a prospect whose stock has been on the rise, plus a pair of higher draft picks would at least be a decent starting point, though is admittedly missing a major piece going back to Seattle.

Realistic Trade Deadline Moves by Wizardry777

If the Flyers want to ditch Owen Tippett and his contract, this may be the absolute peak that they could get in return.

But was the 12th overall pick in 2023 and is competing in his first North American season that he’s split between the NHL and AHL. He has seven points in 28 NHL games and 17 points in 20 AHL contests.

A top prospect plus a flurry of draft picks scattered over the next three years is a prime return for one of the excess wingers on the Flyers’ roster.

Couts and Deadline Sell by Brian The Leafs Guy

Realistically, the only way the Flyers are getting out of Sean Couturier’s contract is to swap him for another player that is of equal contract problems. Reilly does have a full no-movement clause (as does Couturier), but he’s one of the more likely names the Leafs have when it comes to overhauling their underwhelming roster.

Morgan Reilly is a 31-year-old left-handed defenseman who has four years left on his contract at a $7.5 million cap hit.

Sean Couturier is now 33, with four years left on his contract at a similar $7.8 million cap hit.
