The Philadelphia Flyers welcomes the Columbus Blue Jackets to the Wells Fargo Center for a Saturday night regular season showdown. This was the first meeting of the two teams this season and the game showcased the offensive capabilities of both clubs. Entering the game, Columbus was riding a point streak. Amassing 10 points in their last 6 games, the Blue Jackets looked to extend their streak as they entered Philadelphia.

Jake Voracek got the Flyers on the board first in the 1st period by faking a pass to Claude Giroux, causing Columbus goalie Joonas Korpisalo to move out of position, then slamming one in the back of the net. Columbus responded later in the period by scoring one at a near impossible angle beating Brian Elliot and tying the game up 1-1.

Second period action was back and forth between two teams. Pierre-Luc Dubois scored on Elliot giving Columbus the lead for the first time in the game. In the late minutes of the period, James VanReimsDyk got his 2nd goal of the season and tied the game up for the Flyers by tipping the puck in past Korpisalo on the power play. The 2-1 lead was short lived however, thanks to Boone Jenner scoring his 2nd of the game and beating Brian Elliot again.

The final period opened with Josh Anderson also beating Brian Elliot and scoring his first of the season, giving Columbus a comfortable lead of 4-2. Halfway through the 3rd period, Shayne Ghostisbehere fired a cannon of a shot and scored his first goal of the season. Cutting the deficit by 1 and giving the Flyers some life, that goal was the beginning of a flurry of goals in favor of the Orange and Black. James VanRiemsDyk scored again to tie the game via a tip in, 4-4. Flyers were on a penalty kill and scored a short handed goal thanks to Kevin Hayes who is currently on a 3 game goal streak and gave the Flyers the lead 5-4.

In the dying last minutes of the game, Columbus pulled their goalie to attempt to tie the game yet again. The effort fell short though, as Michael Raffl slammed one into the empty net, giving the Flyers a 2 goal lead. 6-4 Flyers. In the final minute of the game, Travis Konecny sniped one past the Columbus goalie and scored his 5th goal of the season. Five unanswered goals in the third period by the Flyers. Final score 7-4.

No time to rest for he flyers as they travel to New York to face the Islanders. The game starts at 7pm.
