Deal or No Deal: Would You Make This Trade? vol. 25

The 2023-24 NHL regular season is just about over and fans are starting to come to terms with the fact that a long offseason is on the horizon. But that means battle plans are being laid for how fans want their favorite teams to handle the offseason, and there’s no better peek into that than CapFriendly’s Armchair GM tool. We once again went through and picked some of our favorite Flyers-themed trades to focus and vote on!

You’re the GM of the Philadelphia Flyers and the proposals below come across your desk, do you make the trade?

Florida Blockbuster and More by SpiderSpiderspider28

Spencer Knight was the 13th overall pick in the 2019 draft, and has spent the entire season in the AHL after returning from the Player Assistance Program. With Bobrovsky still under contract and Anthony Stolarz rising into one of the better backups in the league, Knight has not had a chance to return to NHL ice.

Lundell is a 22-year-old center with three NHL seasons and 200 games under his belt. He is considered to be one of the better under-the-radar young centers in the league today. His entry-level contract expires at the end of the season.

With Kolosov, Fedotov and Knight in the mix, the Flyers get a complete clean slate with their goaltending, plus they have to give up quite the haul to add a young center in a otherwise barren market.

Jiricek is a 20-year-old right-handed defenseman and was the sixth overall pick in 2022. He’s played just 39 NHL games this season between scratchings and demotions on the basement-dwelling Blue Jackets which has caused quite an uproar from the fanbase and led to the potential theory he could be traded away.

The Flyers part with two young players who have themselves struggled to maintain roster spots this season as well as a pair of draft picks, including returning Columbus’ second rounder the Flyers picked up in the Provorov trade.

Marco Rossi is a 22-year-old forward who was the ninth overall pick in 2020. He has played 78 games in 2023-24 recording 21 goals and 38 points. He has one year remaining on his entry-level contract.

If the season ended today, the Wild would pick 15th, a decent upgrade from Florida, who are destined for a playoff run.

The Flyers will have quite the decision in front of them when it comes to the future of Konecny, and if they would choose to deal him, this is the kind of deal they should be scoping out.

Zegras and Anderson by Korax

Trevor Zegras is still in Anaheim after sitting out the trade deadline with an injury. He has 11 points in 27 games this season and 150 points in 207 NHL games.

This deal would also include the Flyers dumping the last year of Ryan Johansen and his $4 million cap hit, so while the return seems steep, the Flyers are paying up to get rid of a previous bad decision.

Sabres Move the Needle by Cabbie91

Mattias Samuelsson is a 24-year-old left-handed defenseman. His father is former Flyer Kjell Samullsson, so the Former Flyer™️ pandering factor plays a role in this one. He’s under contract until 2030 at a manageable $4.2 million cap hit.

Matthew Savoie was the ninth overall pick in 2022. He played one game for the Sabres in 2023-24 before being reassigned to juniors. He’s had 47 points in 23 WHL games since his demotion.
