The Flyers end their eight game losing streak on home ice as they beat the Stars 2-1. Carter Hart played on top of his head tonight making some great saves, he played well enough to get a shutout. The Stars almost doubled the Flyers in shots, but the Flyers were able to score on the chances they got. The line changes from Scott Gordon looked like they worked for now, the lines that stood out the most were the 1st and 3rd line. Nolan Patrick had his best looking game in a while, even though he did not put any points on the board. Will the Flyers build off of this victory and go on another run, or will the woes continue to haunt us? Next opponent for the Flyers is on Saturday as they go to New Jersey to take on the Devils.
1st Period:
Shots: DAL: 7 PHI: 6
It was an evenly matched start to this game, both teams were getting an equal amount of chances. Patrick had one of his best chances in a while as he sped up through the neutral zone and had a wide open look. Khudobin was able to make the shoulder save on a nice shot from Patrick. Still there were some instances where the Flyers hesitate to shoot the puck when the should. The period ends scoreless.
2nd Period:
Shots: DAL: 13 PHI: 6
Around the early stages of the 2nd, Gudas sends the puck in on Khudobin. He lets the rebound go to James van Riemsdyk who makes a nice backwards pass to Konency who redirects the puck over the glove of Khudobin for a 1-0 lead. Later on in the 2nd, Dallas has a delayed penalty which gives the Flyers an extra attacker. Instead of taking the power play, Giroux puts the puck on net which deflects off van Riemdyk’s stick and the skate of Lindell and into the net for a 2-0 lead. Dallas throughout the period are generating chances, but Hart comes up big in net each time. The period ends with a 2-0 lead for the Flyers.
3rd Period:
Shots: DAL: 18 PHI: 10
The Flyers had 3 big chances to pull this game wide open, but Khudobin came up big on all of them. Two 3-on-1’s while on the penalty kill, Khudobin makes a brilliant save on one, and the other chance went off Couturier’s skate. Then after the penalty kill, van Riemsdyk and Konecny have a 2-on-0, and Khudobin keeps Dallas within the game. Dallas keeps on pressing, and eventually they are able to pot one home as Jamie Benn gets them on the board to cut the lead in half. It would not be enough as the Flyers win 2-1.
