The jersey scene around the NHL has cooled off a bit entering the 2021-22 season. The reverse retros are now a thing of the past and not many teams went through a full on redesign over the offseason like over the last few years. That doesn’t mean the league isn’t filled with awesome new jerseys and returning favorites that are surely selling like hotcakes across the league.
Number 5: Calgary Flames
The one-off return of Blasty last season put them on this list, and this year the removal of their red and black fromer home jerseys keeps them on the list. Going with just the Micky D’s color scheme is a bold throwback to their jerseys from the 80’s and 90’s and something completely unique in the league. They’ve teased these jerseys for years first as an anniversary jersey and later their full-time alternates in two separate stints. The franchise finally pulled the trigger and named these their home and away jersey in 2021 and are much better of for it.
Number 4: Ottawa Senators
Even though the Sens lost their all red reverse retro alternates, there’s no denying their regular home and away jerseys are some of the best in the league. The vintage crest and the simple but effective black red and white color scheme make for a close to perfect hockey jersey. Considering the Senators had some of the worst jerseys in the league over the last 15 years, their return to their roots skyrockets them in the leauge-wide rankings.
Number 3: Vegas Golden Knights
The simplicity mixed with outlandish ideas makes Vegas a great place for hockey jerseys. The toned down grey and white base with gold and red highlights for their home and away kits are quirky but work and their long awaited gold alternates are full on insane, but in a good way. Luckily we’re just judging the jerseys and not the helmets, because that would be a different story entirely.
Number 2: Arizona Coyotes
The Coyotes have finally returned to the kachina for their full time home and away kits and it’s the best move that franchise could make besides a relocation to Quebec City. They did decide to keep their former “brick” home jerseys as an alternate, which is a step back from their amazing purple reverse retros, but as long as the kachina reigns supreme, they can have whatever alternates they want.
Number 1: Seattle Kraken
Putting their lackluster expansion draft aside, the Kraken won the league over with their wacky name and beautiful jerseys in their inaugural season. Going full in with the oceanic theme, the franchise utilized multiple shades of blue for their base and accent colors officially called Shadow Blue, Boundless Blue, Ice Blue and the main color being Deep Sea Blue. The red’s hex code is Red Alert, which seems fitting for the Kraken.
